Mayville State University head baseball coach Scott
Berry has announced the signing of Spencer
Mallonee to a national letter of intent to attend the
University and play for the Comets beginning in the
fall of 2011.

Spencer Mallonee (Mt. Spokane HS) is the fifth
signee this season for Comet baseball and will add
middle infield depth next season.

“Spencer is another recruit that was targeted by
Coach Pratt during his recruiting of Arizona during
the Arizona Senior Fall Classic," Berry said. “All of
our signees really bring in a lot of talent and they will
certainly fit into our program. They are all very
successful in the classroom and their athletic
accomplishments speak for themselves.”

Mallonee is coming off a tremendous junior season
where he was used primarily as a second baseman
while competing for Mt. Spokane and Spokane
Dodgers Club teams. Mallonee batted .327 with 45
RBIs, 66 hits, 14 doubles, 2 triples, 1 home run and
64 runs scored.

“Spencer’s comes from a great program at Mt.
Spokane HS where Coach Schuerman does a
tremendous job. We hope with the signing of
Spencer it can open the door for us in the recruiting
process at Mt. Spokane and surrounding areas,"
MSU assistant coach Peter Pratt said. “The moment I
met Spencer and his family we knew we had not only
a tremendous player, but a great family that fits the
mold of the Comet family."

The Comets finished the 2010 season with a 29-23
record. Mayville also earned a bid to 2010 National
Baseball National Championship Regionals in Joliet,
Illinois

Fall ball was a huge awakening for me this year. As in coming Freshman I knew I had to work harder than I have
ever worked before. The talent of the other players was enormous and the competition to solidify a position
pushed me even harder.

Mayville scrimmaged almost everyday and that helped me improve my game.

On top of all of the baseball I also carried a full academic load. This combined with baseball was a big transition
for me.

I had to work harder than I ever have in my life to keep good grades and earn a starting roll on the team.

Thank god for family and friends for pushing me through all of it.
